During the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), the year’s most prominent climate summit, Xiaomi Corporation (“Xiaomi” or the “Group”), a consumer electronics and smart manufacturing company with smartphones and smart hardware connected by an Internet of Things (“IoT”) platform at its core, introduced its strategy for sustainable development driven by its foundational core technologies. The company also showcased the latest advancements in carbon management in its “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem – another strategic upgrade for Xiaomi in climate governance.
In a speech at the China Pavilion of the Conference here, Alain Lam Sai-wai, Vice President and CFO of the Group, and Chairman of Airstar Digital Technology, provided an in-depth analysis of Xiaomi’s latest strategy for sustainable development driven by Xiaomi’s foundational core technologies. He stated that Xiaomi’s goals are to make AI accessible to everyone, pursue sustainable development across its ecosystem, and take responsibility for its foundational core technologies. Xiaomi is committed to its “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem strategy, which aims to provide consumers with a sustainable, smart lifestyle via its foundational core technologies and AI innovation. He said: “Through smart manufacturing, AI innovation, and new retail models in our smart ecosystem, Xiaomi has not only enhanced its operational efficiencies and economies of scale in production but also enhanced the integration and efficiency of its supply chain, effectively optimizing resource utilization and energy consumption ratios.”
Integrating AI with Foundational Core Technologies to Drive the Practical Application of Green Innovation
Lam explained how Xiaomi leverages its “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem strategy to achieve a low-carbon, efficient, smart lifestyle and to empower ESG innovation through technologies. The Xiaomi HyperMind smart platform intelligently adjusts the operation modes of devices, such as air conditioners and refrigerators, in home environments. Through smart monitoring and adjustment, it ensures that each home appliance operates in a relatively low power consumption state, providing consumers with a smart, convenient, and low-carbon living experience. It leverages Xiaomi’s foundational core technologies to strike a balance between comfort and environmental impact.
Xiaomi smart manufacturing system also has achieved a high degree of automation in key areas. Xiaomi EV Factory utilizes its self-developed “Hyper Intelligent Manufacturing Platform” (“Hyper IMP”) to streamline the entire smart manufacturing process, which covers everything from production management to detailed adjustments for autonomous optimization. This not only significantly enhances production efficiency but also reduces resource consumption in the various stages of manufacturing. This year, the Xiaomi SU7 Series won the “Low-Carbon Leader” award from the China Automotive Technology & Research Center. The vehicle’s low-carbon secret is its strong technological capabilities. The drag coefficient of the Xiaomi SU7 Series, for example, is currently the lowest among mass-produced sedans worldwide, significantly reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions when it operates. The Xiaomi SU7 Max model supports 800V super-fast charging technology, enhancing charging efficiency. With the support of smart and automated technologies, Xiaomi cars are able to achieve more precise energy management and optimize driving modes, thereby reducing energy waste and minimizing environmental impact.
Establishing a Carbon Management Standard for the “Human x Car x Home” Smart Ecosystem to Lead the Industry’s Low-carbon Transformation
At the Conference, Xiaomi released its standard for “The Construction of Carbon Management System for ‘Human x Car x Home’ Smart Ecosystem”. The standard, which was formulated in October, is the first of its kind to focus on building a carbon management system for diverse enterprises in the “Human x Car x Home” smart ecosystem. Its main goal is to guide various enterprises in efficiently managing carbon emissions. Its secondary goal is to promote the creation of new quality productive forces through smart AI carbon management. The standard was devised to help these enterprises shift their carbon management approaches, drive carbon reduction throughout the value chain, and promote sustainable economic and social development.
Envisioning Sustainable Development Driven by Foundational Core Technologies
Xiaomi last year announced a technology strategy that focuses on fundamental technology and long-term investment in technologies that will benefit humanity. ESG practices play a crucial role in achieving this strategy. Xiaomi’s long-term success depends on the short-term financial gains as well as its harmonious relationship with the environment, society, and governance. Xiaomi will continue to pursue technological advancements as a core value, prioritizing carbon neutrality in its operations through measures such as enhancing energy efficiency, applying clean energy practices, and innovating in smart manufacturing. Xiaomi also will actively lead the low-carbon transformation and upgrading of its entire value chain, providing customers and consumers with greener, smarter, and more sustainable products and services. Xiaomi’s team is working together to build a better low-carbon future.
