Matron found her a bright and interesting young person, and suggested she consider becoming a doctor. She went on to secure a place at the Middlesex Hospital Medical School. Here, she met her husband, Emlyn John Wood, later a medical physicist at the Royal Free Hospital.Most of her career was spent in chemical pathology at the Greenwich District Hospital, combining laboratory and clinical work, her interests being thyroid and pituitary diseases. She retired in 1999 and pursued a second career as a psychodynamic counsellor. Among her interests were music (particularly singing), art, and photography.A kind, wise, intelligent, and broadminded woman, she suffered a cruel and steep decline from dementia during the covid-19 lockdown and died from metastatic breast cancer. She is survived by her husband, three children, eight grandchildren, and two great grandchildren.
