![Trump v Harris - Live: Walz lauds ‘smart women’ versus ‘smallest man in world’ as Vance stokes tension in Ohio](https://xpresschronicle.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/Trump-v-Harris-Live-Walz-lauds-‘smart-women-versus.jpg)
Minnesota Governor and Democratic Party vice presidential candidate Tim Walz told a crowd in Wisconsin on Saturday that his life hack “for all the guys out there” is “surround yourself with smart women and listen to them and you’ll do just fine. That includes my fellow cat owner Taylor Swift”.
He added: It’s really great to have all of these women help us beat the smallest man in the world… Donald Trump.”
Meanwhile, Vice President Kamala Harris gave her her first solo interview since becoming the party’s nominee, pitching herself as “a new generation of leadership” and promising to help small businesses and first-time homebuyers.
Outrage continues following Trump’s claim during Tuesday’s likely-only presidential debate that the Haitian community in Springfield, Ohio (who are there legally, and at the town’s invitation), were stealing and eating domestic pets
While the city officials and the governor have denied this is happening, Trump’s running mate, Ohio senator JD Vance has further stoked tensions by reposting an unverified video as alleged evidence. Footage of what appears to be the Proud Boys on a main thoroughfare has surfaced and bomb threats have been called into hospitals, schools, and offices.
In 51 days, Harris will go head-to-head with Trump as Americans cast their votes in the 2024 election.

Catherine Pepinster writes:
Where does politics end and religion begin? Pope Francis has stoked that debate once again with his recent intervention in the US presidential campaign, where he commented on the race between Donald Trump and Kamala Harris.
This may seem puzzling to some, who view being anti-migrant and supportive of abortion as at opposite ends of the political spectrum. But from the Pope’s point of view, they are part of a continuum of being “pro-life” – thinking that has seen Francis also speak out passionately against the death penalty and the Catholic Church being opposed to assisted dying.

Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator JD Vance continues to stoke outrage against foreign-born members of his own constituency, sharing video footage with his 1.9 million social media followers that he claimed showed African migrants in Dayton, Ohio “eating cats”.
In the eyes of many though, it appears to show nothing more than poultry cooking on an outdoor grill.
Justin Rohrlich has the story.

On his show on Thursday night, the late-night host waded into the damage control efforts by Republicans and Trump allies following his showdown with Kamala Harris on Tuesday night.

After Republican vice presidential candidate JD Vance helped supercharge a false, racist rumor that Haitian refugees in small-town Ohio were stealing and consuming people’s household pets, the fiction was duly parrotted by running mate Donald Trump during a nationally televised debate against Democratic opponent Kamala Harris.
The compounding myths, which the leader of notorious neo-Nazi group Blood Tribe gleefully took credit for having helped popularize, were swiftly debunked by, among others, the Springfield mayor, city manager, and police department.
But the claims have not only inflamed existing tensions in Springfield, they have also managed to further traumatize a group of people who fled civil war and ceaseless gang violence for the sleepy Rust Belt town of 58,000.
