With its network of hospitals and clinics across the country, The Medical City has established itself as a leader in Philippine healthcare. The goal is to achieve JCI accreditation across all TMC hospitals, with TMC Clark aiming for this milestone in December 2024. As more facilities earn the JCI seal, TMC ensures a consistent, world-class standard of care for patients at every location.
THE Medical City (TMC), one of the leading healthcare providers in the Philippines, proudly announces its 7th consecutive accreditation from the Joint Commission International (JCI), reinforcing its commitment to world-class healthcare during its 57th Anniversary opening ceremony in Ortigas, Pasig City.
JCI is a global leader in healthcare quality standards and patient safety, accrediting only hospitals that meet rigorous international benchmarks. With the JCI seal of quality approval, local and international patients alike are ensured that they receive the safest and most effective care.
Dr. Ruben G. Kasala, Executive Vice President and CEO of TMC Ortigas, expressed his pride in the institution’s achievement, saying, “Receiving our 7th consecutive JCI accreditation is a significant milestone for The Medical City. It demonstrates our steadfast commitment to continuously improving the quality of our services and our dedication to providing exceptional patient care.”
“As we celebrate this milestone, we are reminded that the true essence of quality healthcare is the patient experience. This JCI accreditation encourages us to keep raising the bar and redefine what it means to provide outstanding healthcare in the Philippines and beyond,” Dr. Kasala added. “Our engaged staff and clinicians, committed to transforming lives through innovation, make all the difference,” he added.
Pioneering Quality Healthcare in the Philippines
TMC’s consistent adherence to JCI standards and commitment to continuous improvement and patient safety is evident in the institution’s approach to outcomes and program development.
Dr. Gregorio S. Martinez Jr., Chief Medical Officer of The Medical City Ortigas, emphasized that the JCI accreditation reflects the hospital’s dedication to not just meeting standards but exceeding them. He noted that the accreditation process rigorously examined every detail of the hospital’s operations, and the staff’s engagement was a key factor in the success. “This achievement isn’t just a recognition of our doctors; it’s a community achievement. It’s the result of our programs, processes, nurses, staff, frontliners, and backliners working together,” Dr. Martinez said.
As part of its ongoing commitment to quality, TMC continues to implement innovative practices, leverage advanced technologies, and invest in the continuous training and development of its medical and support staff. “We have great processes, programs, doctors, and nurses, but there’s still room for growth,” Dr. Martinez added. “The dream now isn’t just to be the best in the country—we want to be one of the best in the world.”
TMC’s AMI Program as the Trusted Leader in Heart Attack Care
DURING the event, TMC also announced the JCI accreditation of its Acute Myocardial Infarction (AMI) Clinical Care Program. This prestigious recognition solidifies the institution’s position as the leader in heart attack treatment, ensuring patients receive time-critical, high-quality care guided by the latest Clinical Practice Guidelines from both local and international cardiac societies.
TMC’s AMI Program is the first and only clinical care program of its kind in the Philippines with a JCI certification. This reflects TMC’s commitment to delivering evidence-based, world-class care for cardiac patients.
Dr. Martinez highlighted the impact of TMC’s clinical programs, particularly in areas like cardiology and stroke management. He shared that the surveyors were especially impressed with the AMI program, describing it as “the star in the firmament of the Philippine health landscape.”
He expressed confidence that the upcoming acute stroke program will also set a new benchmark for clinical excellence. “Our clinical outcome measures go beyond mortality and complication rates; we ensure that patients continue to do well even after they go home, through programs that include follow-up calls and clinic visits that monitor medication adherence and improvement in function and well-being,” Dr. Martinez explained.
