When in La Union and you’re craving crispy bagnet and classic Pinoy comfort food (because what’s a trip to the North without an indulgent meal with bagnet?) we know just the spot to visit.
Salo-Salo sa LU is a newly-opened food spot in San Juan, La Union. It’s a food stall tucked inside the newly-renovated The Circle Hostel and is also the hostel’s food partner. So, if you’re staying at The Circle Hostel, you can expect your breakfast to be from Salo-Salo.
This new addition to Surf Town’s wide variety of food stalls and restaurants was founded by Chloe Magsaysay, also the woman behind Halo-Hilo (a must-visit spot if you’re looking for halo-halo in La Union!).

She shares with WhenInManila.com that she wanted to have a go-to spot for hearty Pinoy comfort food, with fresh vegetables always available. So, she opened Salo-Salo.
When you look at their menu, it’s clear what the star of the show is: their bagnet. Salo-Salo currently has six dishes on their Bagnet Specials menu.
Their bagnet comes all the way from Vigan City, allowing diners to enjoy high-quality, savory, and super crispy bagnet.
It was some of the best bagnet we’ve ever tried. It remained super crispy and full of flavor even after spending a number of moments taking food photos and videos.
An instant favorite from their Bagnet Specials is the Bagnet Kare-Kare which has a rich and creamy peanut sauce that’s made from scratch with real peanuts also roasted in-house.
My personal favorite was the Bagnet Sinigang with mouthwatering broth that was both savory and light; we really couldn’t stop ourselves from slurping down every bit of broth available. And I loved how the bagnet was still crispy even after being drenched in the sinigang soup. Be warned, you might be ordering one or two more servings of rice with this.
For the sisig lovers, you have to try their Bagnet Sisig. It’s super crispy and perfectly seasoned; even non-fans of sisig would love it!
If you want to enjoy bagnet in its pure glory, you can try their Bagnet at Ensalada—a rice meal with slices of crispy bagnet and a side of ensalada and bagoong.
Salo-Salo also offers classic Pinoy breakfast meals all day, including Bagnetsilog, Danggitsilog, and Tortasilog just to name a few. What better way to start off your day of going to the beach than with a hearty breakfast?
If you’re looking for something to balance out all the bagnet you’re going to enjoy, Salo-Salo also has steamed okra on their menu! Now, you don’t have to feel guilty about ordering that extra rice, too.
Salo-Salo is still currently on soft-opening, but they will soon be serving more items on the menu, including Chicken Tinola, Tuna Inasal, Fishball, Dynamite, and Crab Rangoon!
Their meals are deliciously good and their servings are hearty. With meals starting at PHP 150 and Bagnet Specials starting at PHP 250, it’s one of the places in the heart of San Juan, La Union that can guarantee you a filling and satisfying meal without burning a hole through your wallet.
Salo-Salo just might be your new go-to food spots in La Union, not just because of the great selection of bagnet dishes and the value for money they offer, but also because of the homey and serene vibe you can enjoy while dining with your friends! It’s just like enjoying a warm home-cooked meal at the home of a friend. Soon, you just might find yourself one of the regulars at Salo-Salo.
