Here he met fellow medical student, Mary McArthur, to whom he was married for 59 years. After national service as a doctor with the rank of squadron leader in the Royal Air Force in Germany, Russ went into general practice in Corby and Brigstock in Northamptonshire. The practice evolved into Lakeside Healthcare and he worked there for 34 years. He is still fondly remembered by his patients and colleagues.Throughout his long career Russ cared passionately for the population of Corby and the training of GPs. He was course organiser for the Kettering vocational training scheme and worked tirelessly, encouraging and mentoring future GPs. He is remembered with affection and respect by his trainees, who went on to become successful medical practitioners.
