The Philippine Marine Corps (PMC) on Sunday conducted a fun run dubbed “Sovereignty Run” as part of its activities for its 74th anniversary.
The Sovereignty Run began at 12 a.m. at the PMC headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.
Members of the PMC and other branches of the Armed Forces of the Philippines as well as civilians joined the fun run.
The PMC said more than 4,000 joined the Sovereignty Run.
Among the participants is retired Philippine Army technical sergeant Ramil Baccay who is 59 years old.
Baccay said he just wants to continue what he did in the Philippine Army before he retired in 2010.
Participants may run for 50 kilometers or less.
The Sovereignty Run is one of the activities leading to PMC’s observance of its 74th anniversary on November 7.
Proceeds from the event will benefit families left behind by PMC members who passed away, as well as Marines on duty in the West Philippine Sea.
The PMC said it has prepared more activities in the next few weeks for its members as part of its anniversary celebration. —Jhomer Apresto/KG, GMA Integrated News
