Carlos Yulo has joined the Philippine Navy Reserve Force as a Petty Officer First Class (PO1)!
The Naval Public Affairs Office welcomed him in a ceremony at the Navy Headquarters on October 1. Sporting his Navy uniform, the two-time Olympic gold medalist expressed his desire to serve the country beyond sports during his speech.
“I am proud to have the privilege of being enlisted in the Philippine Navy Reserve Force, a recognition I never expected in my lifetime. Wearing this Navy uniform fills me with immense pride,” he said.
“With all my heart, I thank the Philippine Navy for this prestigious recognition. I will uphold its core values and inspire today’s youth, showing them that through sports, they too can serve our country,” PO1 Yulo said as he expressed his commitment to serving the country beyond sports.”
In a statement, Maj. Gen. Joseph Ferrous Cuison, Commander of the Naval Reserve Command, delivered a message from the Philippine Navy Flag Officer in Command, Vice Adm. Toribio Adaci Jr., commending his dedication and discipline.
“Your dedication, discipline, and drive made you a champion on the world stage, and now, you bring those same qualities to the Philippine Navy. We know that when you commit to something, you give it your all. I am confident you will do the same as a reservist, standing alongside men and women who dedicate their lives to protecting and uplifting our nation,” he noted.
Carlos brought pride to the country by winning two gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and artistic gymnastics vault final at the Paris Olympics 2024.
