THREE years after the devastating impact of Typhoon Odette, Lapu-Lapu City is hosting the Andam Lapu-Lapu Community Resilience Expo 2024 from December 16 to 17, 2024, focused on disaster risk reduction and preparedness.
Lapu-Lapu City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (LCDRRMO) officer-in-charge Nagiel Bañacia, in his speech at Hoops Dome, Barangay Gun-ob, said the two-day expo will promote risk-informed citizenship as the cornerstone of disaster resilience.
“To learners of the Department of Education, the challenges we are experiencing now will double or even triple in your time. With a growing population, fewer resources, and increasingly severe calamities, the future will be much more difficult if we don’t prepare now. This is why we are doing this today,” said Bañacia in Cebuano.
Bañacia added that the event seeks to educate the public, particularly students, about potential hazards while introducing digital tools to support daily preparedness, ensuring that communities are ready to face future challenges.
Andy Berame, LCDRRMO operations manager, said the activity was created to instill a culture of preparedness among the locals on Mactan Island. (DPC)
