The 6-track release serves as his first record under Sony Music Entertainmen
James Reid has officially released his highly anticipated new EP, jgh, under Sony Music Entertainment and Careless Music. The 6-track record offers an intimate exploration of his personal journey, revealing his growth and evolution as both an artist and an individual.
Short for “just got home,” jgh marks a significant milestone in Reid’s musical journey, representing his return to a place of peace and introspection, both lyrically and sonically. The EP blends pop, R&B, and OPM influences, capturing Reid at his most vulnerable as he reconnects with the authentic parts of his identity that he may have lost along the way. It’s a reflection of his path to self-forgiveness and acceptance of his flaws.
“My home is a reflection of myself,” says James Reid. “It’s filled with things I’ve gathered along my journey and decorated with memories. It’s been another crazy year, and now that I’m home, I have a lot of stories to tell.”
Written and produced by Reid in collaboration with Tim Marquez, Niko, Luke April, Alison Shore, and Brian Lotho, the EP is defined by its introspective and minimalist production. Many of the tracks started as simple acoustic guitar or piano compositions, with each collaborator adding their unique touch to shape the overall mood.
“All the songs were written from the heart,” James shares. “Some were painful to write, others came from realizations I had along the way, and some were inspired by love. It’s been an emotional journey, and I see each song like a page from my diary—truths I may have found hard to express before.”
The EP’s production is understated yet impactful, creating a sense of comforting warmth that resonates deeply with listeners. The songs focus on subtle details, prioritizing Reid’s rich vocal delivery and powerful storytelling over polished arrangements or energetic hooks.
As a whole, jgh has the potential to dominate the charts and capture the hearts of listeners, even those who are hardest to reach.
