Earlier this month, professional footballer Yi-Young Park of Kaya Futbol Club-Iloilo warned his followers after getting pickpocketed in Bonifacio Global City (BGC).
Today, BGC released a statement regarding the pickpocketing incident involving the Korean athlete. It reads:
On July 4, 2024, about 6:32 PM, a pickpocketing incident was reported in Bonifacio Global City (BGC). The complainant, a Korean national, received immediate assistance from a BGC security officer during the incident; and was offered additional support to file a police report at the Police Sub-Station inside BGC, which the complainant declined.
BGC remains vigilant in observing measures and actively cooperating with the local authorities to ensure that safety remains an utmost priority within its spaces.
Yi-Young first explained what happened in a social media post. According to him, six people suspiciously surrounded him in front of One Bonifacio High Street. When they dispersed, he felt the need to check his bag, but it was too late. “The zipper was opened… they had stolen my wallet,” he said.
In his attempt to retrieve his belongings, the group split into three. “I was only able to catch 2 of them and luckily they had my wallet,” Yi-Young recalled. He also mentioned how he “asked the nearby guard for help to stop them because they had stolen my wallet, but the guard could not provide any help.” Nevertheless, he continued, “I’m safe and I got my wallet back, but [I’m] still missing some cash.”
