Filipina visual artist and tea sommelier Rachel Duenas is set to make her international debut at the Louvre in Paris!
She is among the chosen Filipino artists to showcase their works at the Carrousel du Louvre, an esteemed art shopping event known for its vibrant blend of talents and seasoned collectors, which is happening from October 18 to 20, 2024.
Rachel’s journey to Paris began with a chance encounter at last year’s Paris Fashion Week, where she conducted tea meditations backstage. There, she exchanged a conversation with Philippine ambassador Junever Mahilum-West and her delegation, which led to her showing her work. Impressed by her art, they endorsed her to the organizers of the Louvre’s show, opening a great door of opportunity for Rachel.
The Carrousel du Louvre is more than just an underground mall beneath the iconic museum. Twice a year, collectors and gallerists gather for an art festival where emerging artists from around the world showcase their work. Under the guidance of Mr. Dhon dela Paz of Kwadro Pintura, an advocate for bringing Filipino artists to the international art scene, Rachel will grace the gallery amongst a display of other global talents.
As described by an art critic, Rachel’s work strikes a balance between abstract and impressionism. Often compared to Monet, her brushstroke style brings a sense of relaxation and joy to her pieces.
“Seeming naive in execution, but quietly expressive,” art critic Cid Reyes emphasized.
At the Carrousel du Louvre, she will pay homage to her homeland through artistic renditions that depict the warmth and beauty of the tropical paradise that is the Philippines.
“I want the Parisian audience to see the beauty of art inspired by the tropical flora and fauna of the Philippines, expressed in a distinct impressionist style,” Rachel said.
Rachel’s artistic journey marks the beginning of a blossoming career. Her international debut will unveil a rising artist poised to bring a refreshing new dimension to the art world.
Before her trip to Paris, she will host her fourth solo exhibit and final show in the Philippines at Chef Jessie Rockwell Club in Makati. The exhibit will open on September 7, 2024, with her artworks on display until September 30, 2024.
Aside from the “Carrousel du Louvre,” she will also grace the Kwadro Pintura Gallery from October 19 to 20, 2024.
