It’s not just vinyl records that were taken out for a spin last Sunday. It was also the dads that had the best time during their special day to reminisce and look back at the past.
Dads and audiophiles huddle at the second “One Stop Record Fair: Vinyl X Vintage” of the year at the South Wing Atrium of GH Mall on June 16.
This time, the quarterly music event is a Father’s Day edition, which featured over 30 vinyl record sellers and 11 DJs spinning from day to night.
“I really picked this day (Father’s Day) because we want the dads to enjoy the music for that nostalgia feels,” event organizer Sari Osorio said, noting that more people flocked to the event than the last time.
As a treat to the dads, vinyl records were sold for as low as P200.00 to P500.00 from Lennox Records. Some are at a discounted price from 20 percent to 50 percent off while others offer bundles, such as P900.00 per piece for one to four pieces to P600.00 per piece for 20 vinyls and above.
In true Filipino spirit, everyone is encouraged to haggle, negotiate and ask for more discounts, especially when they already got the vinyl that strike a chord or take them back to the good old days.
The “plakadors” at the music fair were Manila Vinyl, Red Records, Dekada, Vinylhead Records, Sounds_inc, Plakatons, RJLS, Rudy’s Records, Mamsy Records, Kapitan Plaka, CD ni Rodgers, Bebecats PH, Oh Mandys Records, Hitsback Records, Mike Plaka, CDfinitive, Vinyl and Disc Philippines, Jollivintage PH, Vinyl Place and Red Worth Vintage and Sunday Goods, among others.
Notable titles sold at the event are sealed Queen LP DeAgostini Series Release 2019 Japan with obi from New Vintage Culture, “Burned” by Electrafixion (RSD 2024 Black & White Swirl) from Bunnygod Records, “Euphoria Morning” by Chris Cornell from El Vendedor, “Speak To Me” by Lulu Kiss Me Dead from Lahn’s Vinyl Shop, “Whatever Possessed You” by Care from Musique Vibe Records, “Hit Me Hard and Soft” by Billie Eilish from Pristine Records and “Remembering Dolores” by The Cranberries (RSD 2022 Release) from Perfect Day Records.
Got the records but nothing to play them on? Audio-Technica Philippines gave some promos at the event, such as the Portable Sound Burger and EMS321B speakers for only P17,498 and other turntables on sale for as low as P14,299 and comes with freebies.
There was no dead air in the event because 11 DJs kept the party going, spinning all day long.
“I want to highlight their potential and show how great they play and own their music. These DJs are very well known in the music industry as they have been playing since the 80s. I want to honor them because they really contribute a lot to the vinyl community,” Osorio said.
The DJs who brought nostalgia and sick beats are DJ Jon Maximilian, DJ Carlo Cordova, DJ Sonny Santos, DJ Eugene Tecson, DJ Christian Combate, DJ Migs Santillan, DJ Joey Alba, DJ Carlo Tayag, DJ Ely Carag, and Par Satellite.
Other than vinyl records, One Stop Record Fair also gives a spotlight to vintage items and collectibles. From old bank notes and coins to vintage soda bottles and postcards, dads were brought back to the past.
There were also matchbox cars, The Beatles Yellow Submarine Hot Wheels toy and Caterpillar construction toys sold at the event.
Shirts were also sold by Jollivintage PH, combining band shirts with spoofs for a different humorous take. Vintage Garments also put up for sale vintage band shirts, vests, vintage windbreakers and other clothing.
“We’ve got everything for the dads! There are super great deals for them as they celebrate Father’s Day. Among the great items we had were rare 45s, hard to find records, nostalgic Magnolia bottles, old coins, 80s cut sleeves skate shirt, vintage windbreaker from the 90s and more!” Osorio added.
The previous “One Stop Record Fair” was in March 2024 at the Greenhills Mall in San Juan City. Get ready to get digging because the next stop will be in September 2024.
