The live-action “One Piece” is adding new members to the pirate crew and one of them is Pinay!
Julia Rehwald, an actress and writer known for “Fear Street” trilogy and “Young Jedi Adventures,” has been confirmed to play the role of Tashigi, a Marine officer and amazing swordsman whom the Straw Hat Pirates will meet and eventually fight while docked in Loguetown.
Julia, whose mom is a Filipino, expressed excitement over the news which she shared on her Instagram account. “A huge dream come true!” she gushed.
Julia is known to be proud of her Filipino heritage and is an active supporter of human rights causes including the “Stop Asian Hate” campaign. In a previous interview with GMA News, she mentioned wanting to eventually produce her own film set in the Philippines or focused on Filipino-American stories. She also credited Lea Salonga as one of her inspirations.
