AFP observes ‘alarming surge’ in disinformation vs military, gov’t

The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday said it has monitored an “alarming surge” of disinformation campaigns against it and the government.

In a statement, AFP chief General Romeo Brawner Jr. said such efforts aim to sow panic, divide the country, and distract the people from important issues.

“The AFP has observed an alarming surge in disinformation campaigns aimed at eroding the public’s trust in our institution and the government,” Brawner said.

“These efforts seek to sow panic, divide our nation, and distract us from pressing issues that demand our collective attention,” he added.

Brawner encouraged the public to verify sources and get information from credible and official channels amid these disinformation campaign.

“In these trying times, it is crucial for every Filipino to remain vigilant and critical of the information they encounter and share,” Brawner said. 

“Disinformation not only distorts the truth but also undermines our unity, making us vulnerable to external challenges that threaten our national security and stability,” he added.

According to Brawner, the AFP is still committed to protecting the country and supporting the peace and security agenda of President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. 

“We call on every Filipino to join us in this endeavor, fostering a spirit of solidarity and resilience against those who wish to weaken our resolve,” he added. —Joviland Rita/KBK, GMA Integrated News
