President Luis Arce of Bolivia took to X on Wednesday to express his concern over the “irregular mobilization” of certain army units within the country. This announcement came amidst accusations from the nation’s former leader, who alleged that a high-ranking general was orchestrating a coup attempt.

Social media platforms were flooded with videos depicting heavily armed soldiers and armored vehicles assembling in the Plaza Murillo, located in the heart of the capital city.The situation has escalated tensions in the Andean nation, with the former President, Evo Morales, calling for a nationwide mobilization of his supporters to defend democracy.
Despite belonging to the same socialist movement as Arce, Morales has publicly distanced himself from the current president. In a separate post on X, he specifically named General Juan Jose Zuniga as the mastermind behind the alleged coup plot. Morales urged his followers to engage in a general work stoppage and block roadways as a form of protest. He emphasized, “we will not allow the armed forces to violate democracy and intimidate people.”
