The new service agreement marks a significant step toward improving connectivity and communication access in the country, especially in underserved and unserved regions. The collaboration is set to begin this month, with the pilot trial launch expected within the year.

The program will leverage Lynk’s expanding Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation to deliver SMS, IP messaging apps, and emergency alerts to areas currently lacking traditional terrestrial network coverage. These areas include remote locations with existing Globe enterprise clients and government installations, as well as tourist destinations with limited or unreliable cellular service.

Globe plans to pilot the service in Zambales, Pangasinan, Siargao, and Leyte.

“In line with our goal of empowering Filipinos through digital technology, we are seeking solutions to bring life-saving connectivity to as many Filipinos as possible. Through this satellite-direct-to-phone service, we aim to provide access wherever our customers are, connecting the unconnected through disruptive technology,” said Gerhard Tan, Senior Director and Head of Network Strategy and Innovations at Globe.

“We are excited to bring Lynk’s transformational sat2phone service to the Philippines with Globe as our partner. As a country with over 7,641 islands, Lynk’s ability to provide mobile coverage directly from our network of LEO satellites will help connect more people in more places,” said James Alderdice, VP of Asia-Pacific at Lynk.

As part of the collaboration, Globe plans to assess the service viability in maritime routes, disaster zones, fishing grounds, and other areas needing improved connectivity through extended communication solutions.

The initiative will involve the use of typical mobile phones by customers participating in the pilot. By analyzing data on customer behavior, Globe aims to gain valuable insights that will aid in designing a commercially viable product tailored to the deployment dynamics of sat2phone communication.

Globe remains dedicated to providing communication services to as many Filipinos as possible. By leveraging satellite technology, Globe is set to redefine connectivity and bring people closer together.
