Around 10 countries have reported deaths of their citizens, mainly caused by the extreme heat, during the pilgrimage to Mecca, one of the five pillars of Islam that all Muslims with the means must complete at least once.The Saudi national meteorological centre reported a high of 51.8°C this week at the Grand Mosque in Mecca. On just one day of the 14-19 June pilgrimage, 2764 cases of heat related illness were reported, with many people needing help and medical treatment.
