The Marcoses do have a viable candidate for the presidency in 2028, as the eldest daughter, Imee Marcos, is considering running for the top executive post. However, there’s a potential issue. Imee is expected to lose her senatorial platform by 2025, which is why she’s reportedly thinking about running for the Manila mayoral post, currently held by incumbent Manila mayor Honey Lacuna.
Insiders suggest that victory is within Imee’s reach as she has been meticulously building her campaign team for Manila’s top post since 2023. The only question is will Honey Lacuna give Imee the silver platter without a fight?
The Lacunas, a political powerhouse in Manila since the eighties, have a strong grassroots network comprising of barangay captains and urban poor groups. They recently faced a setback when Honey’s father contested the mayoralty and lost, marking a rare defeat for the family.
The big question on everyone’s mind is: whom will former Manila mayor Isko Moreno support? Will Isko align himself with the Lacunas, or will he throw his support behind Imee Marcos, given that Moreno is a known loyalist to the Marcoses, similar to his late mentor, the great showbiz entertainer German Moreno?
Manila is very dear to the Marcoses since the First Lady and the family’s patriarch called Santa Anaa and San Juan their home. Former first lady Imelda Marcos vied for the Miss Manila title and won alonsgide another candidate, Norma Jimenez. Meldy lost to a Cristina Galang for the Miss Philippines title.
What’s more, Manila is very close to the seat of power, Malacanan. A Marcos managing the capital and another Marcos manning the national power makes a lethal or potent couple.
