Greek authorities have announced a significant development on the third day of the search for beloved TV doctor Dr Michael Mosley, who is well-known for his diet and nutrition advice on television and radio.

As darkness fell over the quaint Greek Island of Symi in the early hours of Friday morning, local law enforcement have announced they have now decided to halt the search for the night. The investigation into his mysterious disappearance is expected to intensify – three days after Dr Mosley vanished on Wednesday afternoon.

The search for the 67-year-old father of four, who disappeared shortly after departing from a beach on the island where he was vacationing with his wife, had already escalated on Thursday. Fire officers, police search teams, dogs, helicopters, and drones were all deployed across the Greek island in the hunt for Dr Mosley.

However, as dawn approaches the popular holiday hotspot, Greek police have assured in their latest update that “more men will be coming” to assist with the search. They confirmed the search has been paused for the night. This operation has already involved emergency service personnel and equipment from neighbouring islands in the Aegean Sea.

Concerns are escalating as Dr Mosley, a well-known medical expert, went missing on the island prominently in the Pedi area, located towards the northeast. The frequent route, jotted between St Nikolas Beach to Pedi Beach, ushered him into thin air.

While speaking about this unfortunate turn of events, a local woman remarked that his disappearance is “very strange.”

She explained: “It’s a quiet place … if you see the map of the area it’s a clear path, it’s nothing dangerous, many people go every day, every few minutes, that’s the reason it’s very strange because it’s a clear path.”

Yesterday, search operations continued mainly into the mysteries of the Pedi area. However, despite prolonged and intense searches, no trace of the doctor was found.

This prompted Eleftherios Papakalodoukas, the Mayor of Symi, to put forth that it would be “impossible” for the doctor to continue missing given the small size of Symi. Spanning merely 65km2, Symi is among the Dodecanese chain of islands.

In a recent interview with the BBC, he said: “It is a very small, controlled area, full of people. So, if something happened to him there, we would have found him by now.”

Dr Mosley garners recognition as a popular health consultant. He shares four children with Clare Bailey Mosley, his spouse who is a distinguished doctor and writer, specialising in health and food advice columns.

This power couple are known for co-hosting theatre tours and were last seen at the Hay Festival. At this event, Mosley aired a unique edition of his Radio 4 series and podcast, Just One Thing.
