Ronald Cardema of the Duterte Youth party-list has asked the Commission on Elections (Comelec) to deny the Manifestation of Intent to Participate (MIP) in the May 2025 elections filed by P3PWD Party List, represented by former Comelec commissioner Rowena Guanzon.
Cardema, through his counsel Ferdinand Topacio, filed a Petition to Deny Due Course, saying the P3PWD failed to meet the deadline for the filing of MIPs on December 29, 2023.
“Hence, the MIP of the Respondent must be denied for its failure to file within the deadline set by this Honorable Commission,” Cardema’s petition stated.
“And after being given temporary leeway to publish and still not complying with the ORDER of the Honorable Commission, strengthens the resolve to deny due course,” the petition added.
Guazon said she has yet to get a copy of the petition filed Monday.
“We will answer his complaint when we receive an Order from the COMELEC. In the meantime , we in P3PWD Party List continue to serve our PWD sector the elderly and their families. Our constituents are organizing P3PWD chapters nationwide,” she said.
The former Comelec commissioner also called as “another baseless vengeful act” the petition filed by Cardema and Topacio.
It would be remembered that Guanzon and Cardema had traded barbs after the Comelec disqualified Cardema in 2019 as a nominee of Duterte Youth for being overage.
In 2022, Cardema questioned the Comelec’s decision to recognize Guanzon as substitute nominee of P3PWD. — BM, GMA Integrated News
