NEW DELHI: As the Donald Trump‘s hush-money trial inched towards conclusion on Wednesday, the former US President compared himself to saint Mother Teresa further calling the charges “rigged”.
“Mother Teresa could not beat these charges. The charges are rigged. The whole thing is rigged,” he said. The comments came in as he was leaving the court after the trial ended.
The trial is set to resume on Thursday after the 12-judge bench failed to pronounce a verdict after 4 and a half hours of deliberation on Wednesday.
Trump is accused of 34 counts of forging business documents at his corporation in relation to an alleged plot to conceal potentially damaging facts about him during his 2016 presidential campaign.
The accusation stems from payments made to Michael Cohen, the former attorney for then-President Trump, after Cohen gave porn actor Stormy Daniels $130,000 in hush money to end her accusations that the two had sex in 2006. Trump is charged with fabricating Cohen’s reimbursements as court costs in order to conceal the fact that they were connected to a payment of hush money.
Trump has pleaded not guilty and refuted the claims of having sex with Daniels.
