Originally consisting of four members, The Try Guys are now down to two. This is following Eugene Lee Yang’s recent announcement on their social media platforms.

“It’s my time,” Eugene Lee Yang said in a “personal message” to their fans on Thursday, May 23. He continued, “After 10 profoundly impactful years, my time here on YouTube has come to an end.”
“There’s no version of this announcement in which I can properly express how emotional this moment is for me, how hard it is to close such a meaningful chapter of my life, but in the spirit of so much of my digital work, I’m gonna give it one last try.”
Before explaining why Eugene Lee Yang left The Try Guys, he thanked his “bespectacled baby brothers” Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld. “I couldn’t have asked for better, smarter, weirder, funnier, and most of all, kinder individuals to have ridden alongside,” he prefaced. “Though our time in viral videos may be over, our friendship is forever.”

“That being said, the three of us have always held a mutual, empathetic understanding about when the right time was for me to take a bow,” Eugene Lee Yang added.
In a classic Try Guys fashion, the trio breaks the fourth wall to reveal Keith Habersberger and Zach Kornfeld behind the camera. The remaining duo then backs him up, stating the obvious fact that Eugene Lee Yang’s schedule has gotten busier in the past years as one of the reasons. Nonetheless, Eugene Lee Yang clarified that the decisions he made have always been in consideration of what they built together.
“Our shows are not leaving YouTube at all,” Keith Habersberger mentioned to reassure their fans. “Yeah, we’re staying,” Zach Kornfeld confirmed.
“We like to think that we’re not really losing Eugene, but we’re gaining so many more perspectives that deserve the opportunity to shine,” Keith Haberberger added. Then, he teased exciting things to look forward to, saying, “However, we cannot let Eugene go without filming one last season of classic Try Guys videos.”
The remaining portion of the video revealed more answers to “Why is Eugene Lee Yang leaving The Try Guys?” Apparently, he has been working on his film directorial debut. This project is an epic queer fantasy slated for release in 2025 in partnership with the Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group’s Feiwel and Friends. Aside from this, he’s also working on his first graphic novel– a twisted horror fantasy musical dubbed Buckaroo.
Juggling numerous commitments, Eugene Lee Yang emphasized that “leaving will be the best decision for preserving my mental health.” Watch Eugene Lee Yang’s farewell video on The Try Guys channel below.
The Try Guys, a quartet originally formed by Keith Habersberger, Zach Kornfeld, Eugene Lee Yang, and Ned Fulmer at Buzzfeed in 2014, struck out on their own in 2018, founding their independent production company after their contract ended. However, the group faced another change in 2022 when Ned Fulmer departed following a cheating scandal.
