Blinken and Zelensky discuss urgent help for Kharkiv

President Zelensky has said air defences need to be strengthened around Kharkiv, Ukraine’s second city, as Russia targets the surrounding region in a new offensive.

Zelensky told Antony Blinken, the United States secretary of state, that Ukraine needs at least two air defence batteries for the northeastern city, which is being pummelled by drone and missile strikes.

Speaking on an unannounced visit to Kyiv, the capital, Blinken said a new donation of American weapons had already started arriving in Ukraine, with more supplies on the way.
