No tsunami alert for PH as strong quake strikes Japan’s Bonin Islands

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) did not issue a tsunami warning following the magnitude 6.9 earthquake that struck Japan’s Bonin Islands on Saturday afternoon.

”No destructive tsunami threat exists based on available data,” PHIVOLCS said.

The earthquake occurred at 4:35 p.m. at a depth of 538 kilometers, it said. — VBL, GMA Integrated News
