Forest fires devastate mountainous area of Marinduque
A wildfire engulfed a mountainous portion of Marinduque early evening Thursday.
Bureau of Fire Protection Director Chief Supt. Louie Puracan confirmed the incident that occurred in the area of Barangay Kaganhao, of Sta. Cruz town, Marinduque.
Puracan said four fire stations near the area were already alerted to respond to the forest fire.
Social media posts which identified as Marinduque News also confirmed that the fire happened in a mountainous area early evening.
A netizen named Lorie Licop Short on the other hand posted that the fire has already eaten up over 26 hectares as of 6:pm.
Sources from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) said reports they have received noted winds were very strong, hampering volunteers and Local Government Unit personnel.
Firetrucks also could not reach the stiff portion of the mountain and had to douse their hoses upwards to reach the burning grasses while others had to use shovels to cover the fire with soil.
The area, sources added is grassy, dried by scorching heat. | via Jing Villamente
