From morning to noon on Easter Sunday, the traffic along the north and southbound lanes of the South Luzon Expressway was light.

According to Darlene Cay’s report on “24 Oras Weekend,” traffic only started to get heavy at around 2 p.m. along the northbound lanes in Calamba, Laguna.

There was a minor accident involving two cars, but no one was hurt.

The Calamba area was one of the expected choke points on the SLEX because, in this section, the expressway’s five lanes narrowed to three lanes due to the ongoing road widening project.

From 3 p.m., the volume of northbound vehicles at Susana Heights also started to increase, as well as in the Santo Tomas, Batangas Northbound lanes.

The SLEX Command Center expected the number of motorists traveling the expressway would peak by 9 p.m.

Meanwhile, the North Luzon Expressway Corporation said motorists traveling the NLEX would reach 350,000, compared to 300,000 in a normal day.

In the Subic-Clark-Tarlac Expressway (SCTEX), from the daily average of 70,000 vehicles, it is expected to increase to 80,000.

The SCTEX management said they were prepared for this and would deploy more personnel such as tellers, marshalls, quick response teams, and security.

They also ensured that all lanes were open and no repairs were being made to any part of NLEX or SCTEX this Sunday.

Counterflow lanes were also implemented from Angeles to San Fernando and Balagtas to Bocaue for faster travel time.

To avoid queuing, the Bocaue Expansion Plaza opened eight additional toll gates, three of which are with RFIDs. — Sherylin Untalan/DVM, GMA Integrated News
