For months, Houthi attacks have disrupted global shipping routes, forcing ships to take longer and more expensive journeys around Africa. So far, the attacks by Iran-backed rebels have been limited to the Red Sea and Arabian Sea. In recent months, multiple ships crossing from the Red Sea have been targeted by Houthi forces, who claimed the attacks were in solidarity with Palestine against Israel. The sinking of the cargo ship RubyMar after facing Houthi fire is a recent example of their aggressive actions. The US and UK have responded with multiple counter-strikes against the group, resulting in the deaths of about 34 Houthi members since the conflict began.
