Ben&Ben’s Agnes Reoma Reflects on Performing With Ed Sheeran as a Big Fan: ”Wala Akong Pambili Noon”

Last week, Ben&Ben made a special performance and shared the stage with Ed Sheeran during the Manila leg of his Mathematics tour. According to the band, the “chronological order of events” is as follows:

  1. We met Ed Sheeran.
  2. We did Karaoke with him.
  3. We performed on his iconic round stage.
  4. Our frontmen performed our song, Maybe The Night WITH Ed Sheeran and his amazing band.

“After our set, sinalubong niya kami backstage at kinamayan niya kaming lahat. Nakipag kwentuhan pa muna siya ng konti samin, na parang kaibigan lang namin,” the band added.

A few days later, Ben&Ben member Agnes Reoma is “still trying to comprehend” the series of events. Apparently, she couldn’t afford tickets to Ed Sheeran’s concert back in 2015, making this experience truly surreal to her.  “As a broke college girl, wala akong pambili noon sa concert ni Ed kahit sobrang fan ako. He even used to be my wallpaper sa phone noong music school days,” she wrote on Instagram.

“Pero tignan mo nga naman ang universe,” she continued, “Grabe magsurprise.” Trying to piece everything together, she detailed, “Ang labo na we were able to play on his stage, tapos may biglaang karaoke session sa labas ng tent. Tapos yung pinaka highlight would be him singing our song ‘Maybe The Night’ with PaoMigs.”

“Grabe tapos he talked to us din after our set,” she went on. “He said na he usually isn’t able to listen to sa mga opening acts but he heard us and sabi pa nya ‘You’re a really tight band’ aaand nagpost pa sya na ‘bloody brilliant” daw kami’.”

To conclude the story-telling time, Agnes Reoma ended on an inspiring note. “I guess ang gusto ko lang sabihin ay minsan, yung mga heartbreaks natin, like when I wasn’t able to buy a ticket to his show, part pala yun ng plan ng universe. Never thought I’d meet him this way for the first time,” she said.

“What a weird day. Thank you, Lord! Thank you, Liwanag for bringing us here.”
