A vog alert has been issued on Taal Volcano on Tuesday, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS).
Volcanic smog was reported over the Taal Caldera at 2 p.m., while a total of 6,837 tonnes per day of volcanic sulfur dioxide was recorded since Monday.
Data from the Batangas Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office indicated the following areas have been affected by vog:
PHIVOLCS advised the public to take the necessary steps to protect themselves against vog, such as limiting outdoor activities and wearing N95 face masks.
Earlier on February 19, Taal Volcano emitted over 14,000 tonnes of volcanic sulfur dioxide.
Despite this, PHIVOLCS director Teresito Bacolcol said that an eruption is unlikely due to other volcanic indicators not being present.
