Consultants in England will be asked to vote on a new pay offer from the government, after the BMA and the Hospital Consultants and Specialists Association (HCSA) negotiated a new deal with the government and said that they were recommending it to their members.
The news comes after HCSA and BMA members rejected a previous pay offer earlier this year.12 The BMA said that its Consultants Committee believed that the improved offer dealt with its members’ concerns with the previous offer.
It said that the new offer built on changes to the consultant pay scale in the original offer and now included a 2.85% (£3000) uplift for doctors who have been consultants for four to seven years, who under the original offer received no additional uplift.
