At approximately 11:30 PM on March 5, 2024, Manila Time, millions of users
worldwide were met with frustration and confusion as Facebook,
Messenger, and Instagram experienced a widespread outage.
Users attempting to access the platforms were greeted with an ominous “Unable
To Log In” pop-up message on both mobile apps and desktop versions of the
services, leaving them unable to connect with friends, family, and followers.
The March 5, 2024 Meta Outage was marked by accounts automatically being
logged out and with users getting an “Unable to log in” pop up message on
their Facebook and Messenger mobile apps. Meanwhile, Instagram users noticed
that their feed was no longer updating.
Facebook and Messenger desktop users also got logged out of their accounts
and unable to log-in again. Some users, including myself, even thought of
changing passwords prior to learning about the global outage.
The outage, which affected users across the globe, sparked a wave of concern
and speculation among social media enthusiasts. Many feared their accounts had
been compromised, while others speculated about potential cyber attacks or
technical glitches within Meta’s infrastructure.
Meta Users flocked to and flooded into X social media platform to express

their accounts have been hacked or compromised.

Clearly, Meta is rather inactive on X.
As the hours ticked by and the outage persisted, users remained hopeful for a
swift resolution and a return to normalcy. However, the incident served as a
stark reminder of the fragility of digital infrastructure and the

Update as of March 6, 2024: Facebook is finally back online in the
Philippines! However, as a result of the outage and my initial panic, I have
to remember the new password which I created for my account during the ruckus.
I hope we get an explanation from Meta soon on what exactly caused that outage.
