Gloc-9 Reveals “Sirena” Is a Gift to His Gay Son

Gloc-9 was moved to tears when he revealed that his 2012 rap hit “Sirena” is a gift to his son, Sean Daniel, who’s part of the LGBTQ+ community.

In an interview with ABS-CBN, the rapper-songwriter opened up about the meaning behind the song and how it gained significance to him. He admitted that he was really afraid to offend people by the time “Sirena” was released.

“Yung song na yan, nung ire-release namin yan, takot na takot ako. Takot na takot dahil ayaw kong maka-insulto ng tao. Alam ko kasi nung sinulat ko yan, hindi ko tsinelas o sapatos ang suot-suot ko. Ako’y nagsuot ng ibang sapatos o tsinelas,” Gloc-9 said.

Despite his fears and worries, Gloc-9 was surprised that the song received positive feedback from many people. He even recalled an interviewer who cried after watching the music video as it resonated with her best friend’s story.

“And then ‘yung isa talaga humahagulgol at the end of the song. And then she said, ‘Nararamdaman ko yan kasi yan ang buhay ng best friend ko. Maraming salamat.’”

The “Sirena” hitmaker also talked about a heartwarming interaction with a bouncer, who happens to have a gay son as well.

“Minsan nag-guest ako sa isang show sa ABS, isang bouncer, ‘idol, salamat ha.’ Sabi ko, ‘Bakit?’ ‘Kasi yung anak ko sirena rin eh, nung narinig ko yung kanta mo, naliwanagan ako.’”

He emphasized how the song impacted his life, not just as an artist but also as a father.

“My son is gay. Nung sinulat ko yun, hindi niya pa sinasabi sa amin. Hindi ko alam kung paano ko sasabihin sa anak ko na, kung gaano ko siya kamahal,” he shared.

Gloc-9 expressed his support to his son, “Ako ay proud na proud sa anak. Ako ay excited sa kung ano man ang kaya niyang ma-achieve sa buhay niya.”

It was also revealed in the interview that Sean Daniel came out a few years ago.

“Ako’y proud na may anak ako na katulad ni Daniel. Mahal na mahal ko ang mga anak ko at gagawin ko ang lahat para sa kanila,” he added. “Yun [“Sirena”] na yung regalo.”

“Sirena” has become among the most well-loved songs of the LGBTQ+ community. It sheds light on gender identity, acceptance, and the harsh realities that the LGBTQ+ community faces in society.

Gloc-9, whose real name is Aristotle Pollisco, is known for his tracks “Upuan,” “Hari ng Tondo,” and “Magda.” He and his wife, Thea, have three children: twins Sean Daniel and Danielle Shaun, and a daughter, Savannah.
