A British-registered cargo ship, flying the flag of Belize, was attacked by missiles from the Houthi movement off the coast of Yemen, leading the crew to abandon ship.
According to security firms, the Rubymar was navigating through the Gulf of Aden and approaching the Bab al-Mandab Strait when it came under attack.
A Houthi military spokesman claimed that the vessel sustained “severe damage” and was in danger of sinking.
Maritime authorities in the UK verified that the crew of a vessel, which remains unnamed, had been evacuated after an explosion.
This marks one of the most destructive assaults conducted by the Iran-backed Houthis, highlighting the ongoing challenge of Western efforts to dissuade their actions.
