Judges at the International Court of Justice told Israel to allow more humanitarian aid into Gaza and to take care to avoid killing civilians, but fell short of ordering an end to the war.
The principal court of the United Nations accepted an argument by South Africa, which is accusing Israel of genocide over the war, that it had jurisdiction over the case and that it could issue interim orders over the conflict.
It agreed on Friday that there was prima facie evidence that the Palestinians could suffer crimes amounting to genocide before the judges came to a final decision over whether genocide had been committed.
