US Defence officials have confirmed a joint attack by US and UK forces on the Yemeni Houthi rebels amid attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.
The attacks saw the two nations conduct large-scale explosions in multiple locations in Yemen, targeting an underground storage site, missiles and other military resources.
The Pentagon released a statement on the attacks, supported by Australia, Canada, Bahrain and the Netherlands.
“These precision strikes are intended to disrupt and degrade the capabilities that the Houthis use to threaten global trade and the lives of innocent mariners,” it stated.
The joint effort by the US and UK was the second attack on the Houthi rebels since January 11.
Despite multiple rounds of attacks on the Houthi rebels, they’ve done little to prevent attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.
