Prime ministr Benjamin Netanyahu said it was a “twisted world” in response South Africa’s genocide case against Israel that began opening statements at the International Court of Justice.
The United Nations’ top court began hearings on Thursday on South Africa’s allegation that Israel’s war with Hamas amounts to genocide against Palestinians.
Israel strongly denies the claim.
“We are fighting terrorists, we are fighting lies,” Netanyahu said. “Today we saw an upside-down world. Israel is accused of genocide while it is fighting against genocide.”

South Africa is asking the International Court of Justice to order an immediate suspension of Israel’s military offensive in the Gaza Strip.
Netanyahu vowed Israel would maintain the right to defend itself until it had achieved total victory.
