President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Monday said his administration has accomplished 51% of its farm-to-market road target, which aims to improve agriculture and connection between communities.
In a video message, Marcos said his administration is targeting to complete 131,410.66 kilometers of farm-to-market roads in a span of six years.
“I am happy to share a significant update sa ating farm-to-market road network program. Ang atin dapat maging target is 131,410.66 kilometers sa anim na taon. Eh maari ko nang i-report na 51% of that, nabuo na natin,” said Marcos, who believes farm-to-market roads would solve some of the country’s supply chain problems.
(Our target is 131,410.66 kilometers in six years. I can report that we have already finished 51% of that.)
“We have built 67,328.92 kilometers. Katumbas nito, para tayong pabalik-balik mula Aparri hanggang Jolo ng 32 times kaya’t mahaba-haba po ito,” the President added.
(This equates to 32 times of traveling from Aparri to Jolo, so this is really long.)
In September last year, Marcos, then concurrently serving as secretary of the Department of Agriculture (DA), ordered the prioritization of farm-to-market road projects to benefit local farmers and ensure smooth flow of goods and services.
Marcos also said he wants government initiatives to remain on track with the Farm-to-Market Roads National Plan (FMRNP), which aims to ensure food security in the country. —KBK, GMA Integrated News
