Former Australia Ambassador to Israel Dave Sharma has criticised the Albanese government for their response to the Houthi rebel attacks.
Australia has joined the United States, Britain, Japan and other nations in signing an international statement calling for an “immediate end” to the Houthi attacks on vessels in the Red Sea.
Mr Sharma says the Albanese government refusing to send a warship but still putting out a statement makes Australia look like a “paper tiger”.
“The Houthis are not going to be stopped from their attacks on commercial shipping by statements or by press conferences or by media release,” Mr Sharma told Sky News Australia.

“They’re going to be stopped by a substantial naval presence that not only can intercept their own missiles and drones and others but also risk their own facilities and their own personnel.”
