#SenateWrapUp: (Part 2/2) The Senate will mark the end of 2023 making sure to fulfill its vow to act on priority and key pieces of legislation for Filipinos.

Here are December’s highlights before the chamber adjourned for the holidays:

• Ratification of the bicameral conference committee reports on the 2024 General Appropriations Bill; proposed New Philippine Passport Act, bill Recognizing the Octogenarians, Nonagenarians and Centenarians; “No Permit, No Exam” Prohibition Bill; Philippine Salt Industry Development Bill; “Tatak Pinoy (Proudly Filipino)” Bill, and the proposed Magna Carta of Filipino Seafarers.

• Third reading approval of the SUCs Land Use Development and Infrastructure Plan (LUDIP) Bill; Free College Entrance Examinations Bill; Self-Reliant Defense Posture Revitalization Bill; and Anti-Agricultural Economic Sabotage Bill

• Third reading approval of House bills creating and dividing barangays in Surigao del Sur and Caloocan City

• Passage of the Resolution No. 99 concurring in the ratification on the ILO C19O on third and final reading; as well as Resolution Nos. 100 and 101 on the concurrence to the Philippines’ treaties with the governments of Brunei and South Korea, respectively

• Presentation of Resolution No. 96 to Japan Ambassador Koshikawa Kazuhiko

• Adoption of Resolution No. 98 to celebrate Philippines and Norway’s diplomatic relations

• Passage of the bill establishing the Negros Island Region; and local measures creating district engineering offices and high schools in various parts of the country on second reading

• The Commission on Appointments’ confirmation of Department of Health Sec. Teodoro Herbosa, Department of Agriculture Sec. Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., and 49 Department of Foreign Affairs foreign service officials

• Sen. Jinggoy Ejercito Estrada’s sponsorship of the bill providing a New Separation, Retirement and Pension System for Military and Uniformed Personnel

• Sen. Francis “Tol” Tolentino’s sponsorship of the Committee on Justice and Human Rights’ report on the alleged maltreatment of Elvie Vergara

• Sponsorship of the proposed “Eddie Garcia Act” by Sen. Estrada

• Resumption of the hearing of the Committee on Labor Employment and Human Resources Development on the labor dispute case involving workers of the Liberty Transport Corp.

• Continuation of the Health and Demography Subcommittee on the proposed Magna Carta of Barangay Health Workers

• Inquiry of the Committee on Health and Demography on the reported spike of respiratory illnesses in the country
