Despite this, PNP spokesperson Police Colonel Jean Fajardo said that they will not let their guard down and will even intensify police visibility especially in areas where people are expected to flock such as markets and grocery stores.
“Sa ngayon ay wala naman tayong natatanggap na anumang seryosong banta para ma-disrupt at hindi natin ma-enjoy itong pagtatapos ng taon. Pero hindi tayo nagku-kumpyansa,” she said in a Super Radyo dzBB interview.

Fajardo said additional police personnel are also deployed in designated community fireworks display zones and in event places where there will be New Year countdowns. Police assistance desks will also be set up in these areas of convergence.
Police inspections in firecrackers stores were also heightened to ensure that illegal fireworks will not get through.
“Huwag tumangkilik ng mga pinagbabawal na paputok. Pwede naman nating salubungin sa ibang bagay ang Bagong Taon. Gumamit tayo ng mga hindi mapaminsalang gamit gaya ng torotot, busina ng ating mga sasakyan, o mga kaldero na pwede nating pampa-ingay,” Fajardo said.

The Department of Health (DOH) on Sunday, New Year’s Eve, logged an additional eight cases of firecracker-related injuries, bringing the total number of victims this holiday season to 115.
