December

A bus carrying 53 passengers fell into a ravine in Barangay Igbucagay in Hamtic, Antique. At least18 persons died in the tragic accident.

July

27 persons perished after a passenger boat capsized in Laguna Lake off the town of Binangonan, Rizal.

An investigation showed M/B Princess Aya left Binangonan for Talim Island on July 27 when it was caught in inclement weather. Panicked passengers scrambled to the left side of the boat, causing the vessel to tip over.

March

After departing Zamboanga City en route to Jolo in Sulu on March 29, maritime vessel Lady Mary Joy 3 caught fire. Survivors were forced to jump into the sea but 33 people were lost.

May

A massive fire engulfed the 100-year-old Manila Central Post Office. The blaze lasted for more than 30 hours before it was extinguished.
