Israel’s Netanyahu thanks US Biden for veto of UN ceasefire in Gaza

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rebuffed on Sunday (December 10) international calls to end the Gaza war, describing them as inconsistent with supporting the war-aim of eliminating Hamas.

Briefing his cabinet in Jerusalem, Netanyahu said he had told the leaders of France, Germany and other countries they could not pressure Israel to agree to a ceasefire as it would prevent “the elimination of Hamas.”

Netanyahu thanked U.S. President Joe Biden for his administration’s veto of a UN Security Council resolution urging a ceasefire in Gaza, and for its approval of a shipment of ammunition for the use of the Israeli army.
