Israel hunts Hamas leaders in Gaza, foreigners and wounded allowed to leave for first time

For the first time in three weeks the border between Gaza and Egypt has opened, as the war between Israel and Hamas rages, mainly in the north of the Strip.

Ambulances for a limited number of wounded Palestinians have been able to go through the Rafah crossing and over three hundred foreign passport holders were allowed to leave.

The Jabalia refugee camp has been hit by airstrikes for a second day in a row. The exact toll from yesterday’s attack is unknown but a local hospital director said hundreds of people were killed or wounded and Israel claims dozens of Hamas militants died. Israeli troops have continued to advance toward the outskirts of Gaza city in the North – 16 Israeli soldiers have been killed this week. Over 1,400 people have died on the Israeli side, mainly civilians during the initial attack by Hamas – proscribed as a terrorist group by the UK.

The number of people killed in Gaza in the last three weeks is more than 8700 according to the Health Ministry in Gaza and 22 thousand have been wounded.
