Hong Kong authorities will ramp up promotion efforts for mega events launching in the coming months as part of its drive to boost consumption and create greater economic value, the city’s finance chief has said.
Financial Secretary Paul Chan Mo-po said on Sunday the mega events running until the end of 2024 encompassed sports, dining, as well as arts and culture, and would offer sightseeing options to travellers heading to the city for global business meetings.
“The mega events and large-scale activities held in Hong Kong this year are expected to generate more consumption in Hong Kong and create greater economic value,” the minister wrote in his blog.
“We will enhance the publicity and promotion of these events, while better coordinating and leveraging their synergy, so that the influx of people and associated spending can broadly benefit the whole of Hong Kong.”
Hong Kong plans to run more than 210 mega events throughout the year, including the Belt and Road Summit later this week, which is expected to attract about 6,000 attendees from over 70 countries and regions.
