Habagat-induced rains, floods, trigger suspension of class, work in NCR

MALACAÑANG suspended classes in public schools and work in government offices in Metro Manila on Wednesday amid the flash floods caused by the southwest monsoon (Habagat) in the region.

Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin confirmed President Ferdinand Marcos has approved the recommended suspension of the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) “to prevent any untoward incidents and will ensure the safety of the general public.”

Meanwhile, the Department of Education (DepEd) announced on Wednesday that all local government units (LGUs), except for Makati, in Metro Manila have declared class suspension due to inclement weather.

For its part, Taguig said that the decision was made to ensure the safety of the students, teachers, and school personnel.

“Please stay indoors, avoid flooded areas, and monitor updates from the I Love Taguig FB page and Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration,” it added.

The Palace-ordered suspension, which took effect at 7 am of 28 August 2024, covers public schools as well as government offices, except those engaged in emergency services.
