AHEAD of the New Year’s Eve celebration, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) called on manufacturers of fireworks and firecrackers to ensure their adherence to Occupational Safety and Health Standards (OSHS) on Friday, December 20, 2024.
In its Advisory No. 15-2024, the DOLE encouraged pyrotechnics companies to observe the provisions of Republic Act No. 11058 and other related rules.
“Pursuant to the mandate of the Department to ensure a safe and healthful workplace for all workers, all establishments engaged in the manufacture, distribution, and sale of pyrotechnics are hereby reminded to strictly comply with Occupational Safety and Health Standards,” said the DOLE.
Similarly, the Department urged other government agencies to closely monitor workplaces that manufacture pyrotechnics and firecrackers.
This includes the Bureau of Fire Protection, the Philippine National Police, and local government units.
“They are directed to monitor establishments’ compliance with the aforementioned and other related issuances to prevent workplace accidents,” said the DOLE.
During the holiday season, there have been incidents of explosions and fires in pyrotechnics and firecracker factories. (HDT/SunStar Philippines)
