THE Provincial Government of Davao Oriental expanded its Alalay para sa Mas Luwas ug Andam na Barangay (Alab) program to benefit approximately 5,385 families, continuing its efforts to enhance disaster preparedness among residents.
Families from Cabasagan and Siajay in the Municipality of Boston, as well as San Alfonso and Taytayan in Cateel, participated in the program on Saturday, January 11, 2025.
In a Facebook post, the provincial government described ALAB as a program designed to strengthen barangay support and capacity by providing disaster preparedness education. The initiative includes information campaigns to teach residents how to manage risks before, during, and after calamities.
Davao Oriental Governor Niño Uy highlighted the importance of equipping residents with knowledge to prepare for natural disasters. He emphasized that the program prioritizes the welfare of the people and expressed hope for its continuity under future administrations.
“Kanunay natong giuna ang kaayohan sa atong katawhan sa matag programa nga atong ginapatuman. Kanunay una ang interes sa atong katawhan mao nga kining Alab gisugdan nato pinaagi sa paglabas sa Executive Order No. 48 aron kini magmakanunayon (We always put the welfare of our people first in every program we implement. The interest of our people comes first, which is why we initiated ALAB through Executive Order No. 48 to ensure its sustainability),” he said.
The governor also noted that the program is inclusive, providing services to all residents of the province regardless of status, standing, or religion.
Earlier this year, on January 4, 2025, the ALAB program reached approximately 3,557 families in Banaybanay and Lupon. The government aims to implement the program in all 183 barangays across Davao Oriental. RGP
