THE Davao City Treatment and Rehabilitation Center for Drug Dependents (DCTRCDD) treated around 353 individuals with substance use disorders in 2024, exceeding its annual average of 200 to 300 patients.
Dr. Michelle Maville Schlosser, officer-in-charge and manager of DCTRCDD, said the center has a bed capacity of 100 and regularly accommodates new patients as others graduate from its six-month rehabilitation program.
“Ma-complete nila ilang rehabilitation sa atoang center they will be able to reintegrate sa atoang society (Once they complete their rehabilitation at our center, they will be able to reintegrate into society),” Schlosser said during a Davao City Disaster Radio (DCDR) interview on January 3, 2024.
DCTRCDD is the only facility in the Davao Region that caters to men, women, and children with substance use disorders.
Beyond medical treatment, the center provides therapy, spiritual enhancement, and personal development programs, including livelihood training in driving and welding.
Schlosser underscored the importance of aftercare and outpatient programs to support recovering individuals after completing their rehabilitation.
These programs monitor patients’ progress and aim to prevent relapse by helping them transition back into society.
She also highlighted the need for a dedicated building to house these programs. She added that while patients may thrive in the controlled environment of the center, reintegrating into society presents challenges that could lead to relapse.
Schlosser expressed optimism that the construction of the aftercare facility would be completed soon, enabling the center to better support patients post-rehabilitation. RGP
