BAE Systems has secured contracts totalling $68m to produce 44 additional cold weather all-terrain vehicles (CATV) for the US Army.
This includes a $48m extension to the existing full-rate production contract from August 2022 and a $20m award for the fiscal year 2025.
The CATV, a member of the BvS10 family, is an unarmoured variant of the Beowulf, chosen by the US Army in 2022 to replace the Bv206 for Arctic operations.
Built by BAE Systems Hägglunds in northern Sweden, the Beowulf platform is an amphibious dual-body vehicle which serves military applications, HADR (Humanitarian Aid Disaster Relief), fire fighting and rescue operations.
It can carry 14 passengers, and a payload of up to 8,000kg, at 65km/hour.
Beowulf was offered by the company in July 2020 for the Army’s CATV programme aimed at operating in harsh Arctic conditions.

It successfully finished the prototype evaluation phase in Alaska in 2022.
The testing included amphibious operations, navigating complex terrain, starting and operating in extreme cold weather conditions, as well as user assessments by soldiers.
This ensures reliability, durability, and high system availability.
